In 1985, devout Father Bill Furlong uncovers disturbing secrets held by the local convent and reveals shocking personal truths.. Cillian Murphy is a fan of the film’s original novel author Claire Keegan. He recalls reading her novel “Foster” on a train and having to pull his hood over his face because he was crying.. Eileen Furlong: If you want to get ahead in this life, there are things you have to ignore.. Dedicated to the over 56,000 young women who were sent to Magdalene institutions for “penance and rehabilitation” between 1922 and 1998. And the children who were taken from them.. Appeared in 60 Minutes: Crisis in the Red Sea/Fake Electors/Finding Cillian Murphy (2024). My eyes were completely glued to the screen from start to finish while watching this film. The amount of scenes without dialogue that have so much atmosphere and emotion is simply incredible. Cillian Murphy is absolutely incredible in this movie, as I expected. But the emotion he shows in this movie and the way he acts through his body language and facial expressions are just superb. He really is one of the best actors of this generation. Emily Watson is amazing as Mother Superior. The tension she brings to every scene is fantastic. It really shows how horrible some of the nuns were back then. This movie had a perfect runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It even felt longer because I was so engrossed. The score and cinematography were both so simple, yet so effective. They both really added so much to the movie and just gave it the finishing touches it needed. Overall, this movie was absolutely incredible and was a pleasure to watch. I would love to see more movies like this in the future. It was also great to learn more about my country’s history, even though I know the dark side of it. “If you want to get ahead in life, there are things you have to ignore, so you can get ahead.” Eileen Furlong.
